'Tis the Season...

Wow. I haven't been here in so long, ha ha. I just can't wait for this semester to be finished... I need a new start next spring.

And I can't believe it's the holidays already. I--

I... am tempted to post my amazon wishlist everywhere. Leave it in my mother's room, post it in xanga, myspace, livejournal, blogspot, younameit... but meh. >< I did receive two gifts so far... except one of them, uh, it's um... a poster with questionable content. I had to explain 'Yes, ma, those are both guys and NO, that's not porn.' and no, I'm not kidding. And of course, the frog socks. XD

I am the worst gift giver ever. I still haven't done my christmas shopping and I have no idea whatsoever on what to give in the first place. To add to that, I have little to no spending money so the budget for each person is... nevermind. I WILL find gifts though. I'm awesome that way .

Well, "Season's greetings!" and all that. Enjoy your christmas!

Asian Americans excel, colleges not happy :(
What. The. F**k.

In today's highly-competitive college admissions environment, many Asian-American students are discovering that Affirmative Action and other race-based quota systems are wreaking havoc on their higher education plans.  For some time now, Asian-American students have been subject to discrimination in the college admissions process as selective schools try to limit their numbers under the guise of "diversity".

[sarcasm]
You know what rocks? Since we Filipinos have Spanish surnames, we can bypass this because the names are misleading. Or yeah, Chinese kids with ambiguous surnames, like Young. But we're still Weird GENIUZ Azns, we just didn't tell them that. So there, our kind got into those school places. What does that tell you?

Begging your pardon, maybe you could look into your kids. They don't do well, it's not the "prodigies"' faults they do so well.

You know what else, this stereotype was one of the reasons why I quit Nursing in the first place. *gasp* How politically-incorrect of me. So not really, that's another stereotype I'm talking about, sorry. I won't delve into that, mostly because my readership is filipino and well, I'd be politically incorrect now, aren't I?

Although the article above? You want an Asian who's an English or Liberal Arts major? Because I am. Although I'm contemplating shifting to engineering, because I'm angry. What the hell.
[/sarcasm]

Despite the lack of coherence and sense this entry here makes, this is going to bite me in the ass one day, I just know it.

Whoa. I haven't updated in a while. Figures. What prompted me to finally update was a tag from Ate Arlene.  Hee.

10 years ago I was:
 ...still in my diapers. Kidding. Ten years ago I am in 2nd grade in a biggg Catholic College in the Philippines. I got into a playground fight (complete with punching and biting) with a neighborhood kid (and won! yay). To this day my parents don't know this fact (nor do they have nay reason to now). It was also my first time dancing in front of an audience. Now that I think about it... I AM YOUNG. Er...

5 years ago I was:
 A freshman high school student in the same Catholic College, and was getting fed up with the place. Got obsessed with playing PC-strategy games. Wrote 7 sonnets and some 40-something poems in the space of 3 months. They were crap. I don't remember anything else important happening, probably because I have the most boring life.

A year ago I was:
 Going to my second prom in February, graduated from high school in March, turned 17 in a hotel, and spent many a fun-filled days with my family in Subic resorts and dolphin and sea lion shows. I miss that. Then finally settled here in the US around April. Visited folks down in Virginia and went to King's Dominion and it was AWESOME. Also went for the very first time to college in September. My Psych professor loved me.

Yesterday:
  Was late for my first class (as usual). Walked back and forth around the campus doing errands (imagine STC to HSC three+ times) under the rain. Received another article assignment. Took a test (which I didn't study for) and I'm pretty sure I aced it. Spent whole afternoon after class in the newspaper office doing last-minute copy-editing and page layouts. Saved $2 since I was droved home. My boss/editor is cute. XD

5 snacks I enjoy:
 Chocolate, instant noodles, cake, doritos, cookies.

5 songs I know all the words to:
 In My Life - The Beatles, The New Hangout Condition - Karate, Someday - The Strokes, Talk Shows on Mute - Incubus, Iris - Goo goo Dolls

5 things I would do with $100 Million:
 1) Make it bigger;
 2) Use the power and fame I inherited with the money to run for office in the Phils, rig the game if necessary, and use the money to improve that country because hell, the leaders are the incompetent of incompetents and most corrupt of corrupts;
 3) Use three quarters of my money for personal reasons: family, future family, all stuff I wanted to buy;
 4) Still make it bigger;
 5) Donate to charity.
...I thought about it, obviously.

5 places I'd run away to:
 Somewhere where stupid people don't exist. Fat chance.

19291 things I would never wear:
 Latest mass-produced "trends" from the latest fashion magazine, other people's underpants, leaves and/or newspapers.

5 favorite tv shows:
 Iron chef!!! The Daily Show, Lost, anything else worth watching on tv these days?

5 bad habits:
 Procastinating, being lazy, taking on too much work that I could possibly handle, not eating breakfast, not prioritizing.

5 biggest joys:
 All my hobbies, my current job, my family, my brain, food I like.

Fictional characters I would date:
 Why are these questions giving me a hard time!? Too many to mention, cause I'm a dork. E.g. Aragorn! Lupin! Sephiroth! Arthur Dent! Guildenstern! I'll stop now. Willy Wonka ARGGHH STOP.

People who should take this test:
 Anyone who's interested. K. Chaloopa. If my bilog white cousin is reading this, I would like to read her answers then. I TAG YOU BIATCH.

*ruptures an artery, splits trachea, bursts spleen, then dies laughing*

http://www.livejournal.com/community/wtf_inc/1141079.html

Ohman... HUGE spoilers though, if you haven't finished the book.

And this: http://www.journalfen.net/community/fandom_wank/766664.html

Where the entire Harry Potter fandom is three steps away upon imploding in on itself. The waaank and the whining duuude. Provides for hours of fun if you can stand the OMGWHINING. lmao.

At this rate I can't wait for the seventh...

Harry Potter 6 = big pile of WTF? (No Spoilers)

Yep, I didn't like it. Mostly because of all the teenage soap opera. Man, who cares who's sucking face with who? Everyone has a fling with everyone, even Snape had his turn and ooh, they showed that in a children's book? Dude, I laughed in that scene in the second chapter.

But NOOOOOOOO. Remus Lupin likes him his man-bits. In my mind Lupin likes his man-bits. He's actually living in sin with Harry's godfather, who has man-bits. Just you wait, in the seventh book Sirius will jump out of Harry's two-way mirror (don't ask how) and have fantastic man-bitty-ful connection with Harry's former professor (i.e., Lupin). Yes, I'm disturbed.

Oooh, damn. I think I spoiled you. But not really.

Other than that minor quibble, I guess the book was... ok. It's not JK's best, certainly not. There are a lot of typos and whatnot and what's the deal with her editor anyway, letting the book be released like that?

Tom Tom Tom~~~ despite being a magpie you are disturbingly hot fascinating. Even more so when your older self is being played by Ralph Fiennes in the fourth movie. I was like, WTF Voldemort isn't supposed to be hot. What were they thinking?

 ***

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory = SQUEE

Johnny Depp = SQUEEEEEEE

The movie was great, Johnny was shining and OMG I sound like an awful fangirl. Tim Burton did justice to the book and the original movie. The remake lived up to the original yay! The effects were wonderful, the oompa-loompa song numbers were fun (although a bit disturbing at times). Gene Wilder's Willy Wonka was old and wise and kooky, in comparison Johnny's was just... kooky. And hot. Dude watch the movie. Dude Johnny's hot. I'm redundant.
